2017-18 Course Selection-New/Incoming Longhorns

Course Selection for VUSD Middle School Students

Students will receive their 9th Grade RBV Course Selection Form from their Middle School counselors. The instructions for the 2017-18 RBV Course Selection process are detailed on the back of that form. If your student needs another copy of the 9th Grade Course Selection Form, please have them see their middle school counselor or print a copy from the links to the right. Students must choose their courses online through the Student/Parent Portal. If you need help with your Student/Parent Portal account, please contact your middle school counselor.   


Students will get the chance to meet with a RBV counselor to discuss their course selections for the 2017-18 school year. Counselors will be at the middle schools on these dates:

  • VIDA Middle School:                         Monday, April 10
  • Roosevelt Middle School:                Tuesday, April 11
  • Vista Magnet Middle School:           Wednesday, April 12
  • Rancho Minerva Middle School:     Thursday, April 13 
  • Madison Middle School:                   Friday, April 14

Non-VUSD & Private School Students

Please complete the process below ONLY if you are not currently enrolled in a VUSD school


Step 1: Complete the Aeries AIR – Online Student Registration application at to pre-enroll your student at RBVHS.


 Step 2: After you finish and submit your application, you will receive an Enrollment Confirmation, Please print this document. --Access to a computer and printer is provided at Rancho Buena Vista at our Career Center if needed.


Step 3: Bring the signed Enrollment Confirmation document, immunization records, birth verification, proof of residents and an unofficial transcript/grades from your previous school to the Counseling office between the hours of 7:30 am & 3:00 pm. The following documents are needed if apply: A current copy of 504; A current IEP (Individual Evaluation Plan) for students in Special Education.


Step 4: Counseling Secretary will schedule you an appointment to meet with your Counselor to enroll in classes.


Step 5: After submitting your enrollment application the Counseling Secretary will add your student information into our system and you will receive your Parent Portal account by email, which will allow you to complete the registration process online (rights & responsibilities, emergency card, etc.)


Step 6: Complete the registration process by logging into the Parent Portal https://parents.vistausd.or to review and accept the registration documents.


 Step 7: Print and sign all the required documents and return on your scheduled appointment with a counselor to receive your class schedule.


Once all of your documents are returned to Carol Haro in the Counseling office, you will have the opportunity to meet with a RBV Counselor to discuss your student's course requests on any of these days. Carol Haro will make the appointment with you.


  • Friday, May 19:   1:30-2:30pm
  • Friday, May 26:   1:30-2:30pm
  • Friday, June 2:    8:00-10:00am
  • Friday, June 8:    8:00-10:00am


Beginning with the Class of 2019, VUSD will recognize the weighted grade point average for courses that are recognized and weighted by the University of California as depicted in the U/C Doorways. Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses will also receive a weighted GPA that will be used when calculating the weighted GPA. Class rank will not be identified or displayed on high school transcripts.  

In addition, there will be a new process to determine both Valedictorian and Salutatorian which will include GPA, attendance, and discipline.
