AVID 9 Advancement Via Individual Determination                                        


Grade Level: 9               RBV Graduation: Elective                  UC/CSU A-G: "G"


This course is a college preparatory support program for students who wish to attend a four-year college. Emphasis will be placed on preparation for college entrance and placement exams, analytical writing, critical thinking and study skills, such as keeping a Cornell-style notebook and completing A-G requirements. Students obtain help with their other classes from college student tutors. 

 

 

 

AVID 10 Advancement Via Individual Determination                                        


Grade Level: 10               RBV Graduation: Elective                  UC/CSU A-G: "G"


AVID elective courses are designed to prepare underrepresented students for entrance into four-year colleges with emphasis on preparation for college entrance and placement exams, analytical writing and study skills, such as note taking and tutorial groups. Students should be enrolled in college prep classes.

 


AVID 11 and AVID 12 Advancement Via Individual Determination                              


Grade Level: 11-12             RBV Graduation: Elective                   UC/CSU A-G: "G"


Prerequisite: 

AVID elective courses are designed to prepare underrepresented students for entrance into four-year colleges with emphasis on preparation for college entrance and placement exams, analytical writing and study skills, such as note taking and tutorial groups.  11-12 AVID will emphasize SAT preparation, the college entrance essay, financial aid, and college applications.  Qualified seniors may receive Senior Seminar Credit; see instructor for details.

 

 

Freshman Seminar


Grade Level: 9                                     RBV Graduation: Elective                            UC/CSU A-G: “G”


Prerequisite: None

Freshman Seminar is required for all RBV freshmen. It's a year long course that focuses on the academic, technological, social, and emotional skills that are important to a student’s transition and connectedness to high school. Cross-curricular study skills, the use of personalized learning, accountability, positive relationships, goal setting, and evaluating potential college and career paths will be infused throughout the course.  The course also fulfills the California state requirement for Health.
